General Information about Russian Private Visas

A Russian private visa is a document authorising a foreign national to travel to Russia to see close family members. Private Russian visas can be issued as
  • single entry – visiting Russia only once during a period of up to 90 days,
  • double entry – visiting Russia twice during a period of up to 90 days,
  • multiple-entry – visiting Russia multiple times during a year.
Private visas cannot be extended while you are in Russia and you are not allowed to overstay the period indicated in the visa. You will need to apply for a new visa in the country of your residence if your visa is expired.

Note: there is no urgent processing service for private visas. Please see below for processing time and prices.

Close relatives

The term close relatives includes: spouse, parents (or adoptive parents), children (or adopted children), spouses of children, brothers, sisters, step-brothers, step-sisters, grandparents, grandchildren.

Simplified visa procedure for family members of Russian nationals

The Russian private visa procedure was simplified in 2021 and now there is no need to provide any special invitation from the authorities in Russia. If you apply for your Russian private visa through our company, there is no need for your close relative to accompany you for your visa application either.

Note: If your close relative does not reside in the UK, they must provide an original invitation notarised in Russia (please see more details in the required documents section below). If this is technically not possible we advise to apply for a standard tourist visa.

Allowed period of stay in Russia on a private visa

Foreign nationals are allowed to stay in Russia during the whole period of the private visa validity, with no limits on the number of days spent in Russia, whereas there are limits of 90 days in each 180 day period when travelling on tourist and business visas. So, if you apply for a 1 year multiple private visa, you are allowed to stay in Russia 365 days.
